EVENT SCHEDULE

 

First Thursdays Art Walk, February 7, 5-8 p.m. Durango Arts Center (DAC) presents a new series of events held on the first Thursday of each month throughout the year. First Thursdays Art Walk celebrates visual art and artists in galleries and alternative art spaces in downtown Durango. Gallery members of the DAC will open their venues and host activities and artists from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during each event. Watch for the sidewalk signs recognizing participating venues. A list of locations and a map are available at the DAC and its gallery members

Tele Daze! Snowdown 2013, Jan 30 - Feb 3, Get Your Geek On! - Snowdown is Durango's annual Winter Celebration. A costume party, parade, follies, and annually changing theme make this 4-day winter party the most wonderful time of the year. The 2013 theme is entitled "Get Your Geek On!" Mark your calendar, and start getting ready for Snowdown, which takes place throughout Durango, Colorado January 30 - February 3, 2013! For more information, visit Snowdown.org.

Snowdown Balloon Rally,  February 2, 2013

2013 Snowdown Balloon Rally Train, February 2, 2013, The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is again the proud HotAir Balloonssponsor of the Snowdown Balloon Rally Mass Ascension on Saturday, February 2, 2013. As part of the celebration, the D&SNGRR is running the Snowdown Balloon Rally Train. The train will stop in the Animas Valley for the colorful hot-air balloon mass ascension, offering passengers the chance to view the mass ascension from the comfort of heated train coaches. If they choose, passengers can also get off the train for 15-20 minutes to get a better view of the balloons.

Red Ball Express Fundraiser, Feb. 9, Watch more than 100 gigantic red exercise balls roll down the slopes of Purgatory for your chance to win cash!  Buy a Red Ball Express ticket for $5 to enter for your chance to win more than $5,000.   All proceeds from the event support Rotary projects in La Plata County and other local non-profits that support people in need or at risk.  This event raises $35,000 annually for the community!  Log on to www.durangoredball.com for more information.

Alpenglow Snowshoe Tours, February 16, March 13, Take the last chairlift up the mountain and enjoy a guided snowshoe tour of the backcountry.  Guides will point out wildlife and their tracks, geology, flora and fauna in the area.  Then snowshoe down to the on-mountain facility, the Powderhouse restaurant, where you’ll enjoy hot chocolate for the kids and wine and beer for adults, complete with cheese, fruit, cookies, crackers and a deli tray.  Guides take you snowshoeing down the slopes that are now closed to skiers and you’ll watch the beautiful sunset and the awe-inspiring Alpenglow on the Needles Mountain Range - a truly unique experience. 2013 Romance on the Rails Brunch Train, February 16, 2013, The Durango and Silverton Railroad, Celebrate Valentine's Day as you experience turn-of-the-century ambiance with your loved one onboard a Premium or Deluxe-Class car as it travels along the Animas River. One of the D&SNG's favorite musicians will be strolling through the cars playing guitar and singing songs.  All passengers who book this package will be treated to a brunch buffet in the morning, special chocolate treat and a complimentary glass of wine or sparkling cider. The ladies will receive a fresh-cut rose!

2013 Winter Photographer's Train, February 17, Passengers will detrain in the wilderness to capture the beauty of an authentic steam train traveling along the Animas Canyon in the winter!

Purgatory is proud to announce the Ambassadors Glade, new tree-skiing terrain on he front side of the mountain. This expansion follows last year’s addition of 125 acres of new, expert terrain on the back side of the mountain.

BIGGEST EVENT
SNOWDOWN (Last weekend of January): A weeklong winter festival featuring wild games, hilarious costumes and the huge Snowdown Parade on Main Street. This year’s theme is Snowdown in De Nile.
