In downtown Steamboat Springs, there are two ski areas which are separate. Steamboat Ski Resort and Howelsen Hill Ski Area.
Steamboat Ski Resort is undoubtedly the most-liked place. It is located on Mount Werner. To its guests, it offers 165 ski trails to skiers. When it is time to take a break, you can check shops, nice restaurants, and even spa centers that this place has.
It is a bit pricier than other spots, so if you are looking for some cheaper solutions, you can go to Howelsen’s. That is the oldest ski area in Colorado; it was first opened in 1914.
So looking at how long they’ve been around, we are sure that you’ll have a delightful stay. Besides dozens of their ski trails, there is also one for people who want to slide on a fat tire. It is known that kids have the most fun doing this.
Hiking and Biking
If you want to enjoy walking while gazing at the beautiful scenery, be sure to check Yampa River Core Trail. It’s a seven-mile-long trail. And for people who opt for cycling, that’s okay too. Entire families go for a group ride.
When you want to rest for a while, you can sit at the picnic areas or playgrounds to relax, and then continue your route. You don’t have to pay an entry fee, and this trail is open for visitors throughout the year.
Another place that you simply must visit if you like hiking is the Yampa River Botanic Park. You can enter free of charge, and you will be able to learn about the local fauna and other plants as well. This Botanic Park is open from May to October; the exact time depends on weather conditions. During winter, it is closed to the public.
In the Green, a place within the park, oftentimes, there are people who do yoga, live performances, and even concerts. However, note that pet owners cannot bring their pets to this park.
There’s one more site we think you’d love. That’s Fish Creek Falls, which is one of the most famous falls. It is close to Steamboats, and it is easy to access.
If you want this to be a day trip, go along the trail until you come to Long Lake. There, you will be a witness to enormous beauty. We suggest going in spring because the vegetation is most stunning at that time.
When the snow starts melting, you can take Gondola Rides and Steamboat Gondola. They will take you to the summit where you can enjoy the view of the Yampa Valley and places surrounding it. And if you come when flowers are blooming, you’ll have a spectacular sight in front of you.
It is open from mid-July until the end of August and on weekends during September. Unfortunately, weather conditions may influence the dates.
